Midterm Blog Post

Reflecting back on the time I have spent in Writing & Rhetoric 1, I have come to generally enjoy the class. Everyone is always excited to discuss the readings of the week and start the debates. However, with everyone having such big personalities the discussions can either get off topic or someone can get too involved with the subject matter. I do admire how involved everyone can be yet I believe there needs to be more organization. The papers we have written have had very thought provoking prompts which has made them easy to write to for the most part. My only suggestion for our essays is to incorporate more creative writing prompts. I feel like creative writing will give us the opportunity to really display our writing skills. In terms of workload, I believe it is fair. All the assignments are given with good amounts of time to complete them. The only assignments I don’t really understand the purpose for are these blog posts but hey, a grade is a grade. I feel like my grade in the class reflects my effort pretty well considering I have missed a couple assignments and always write my papers last minute. Usually it is really hard for me to stay focused in a classroom setting, however it is very easy to keep up and stay on top of everything going on in the class. I think Liz is an awesome professor and I think my classmates are pretty cool too. I guess Writing & Rhetoric 1 has been a pretty rad experience when I really think about it.

  1. I like your idea of creative writing prompts. That would be very interesting, considering our class, to see what kind of stories we would call come up with. Also, i relate to not doing papers until last minute, I much as I try to get on top of shit, I always end up typing like a mad man a few hours before class! I feel you! Great post!

  2. Hey I love your post. I talked about similar things actually, about the conflict of personalities with super different morals and lifestyles during debates. It can be pretty grueling sometimes and chaotic, but the fact that we have such a variety of different people is pretty amazing. I love all the charisma and laughing that can go in class. I agree, we are given such a fair amount of time to work on things, to the point where if I am ever rushing to finish an english assignment, it's because I was being a lazy asshole. The blog posts I think are just to review and refresh things, the first one actually helped me complete and do a great job on my essay, It has definitely been a fun time, especially for a class.

  3. I really liked what you had to say in your post, but I’d just like to mention something: you are one of the most interesting in the class. You had the most interesting things to say and you say it in very interesting ways. I say interesting because I really have no idea how else to describe it. Please, don’t take this the wrong way, but when I first saw you, I really didn’t think you would talk much. You just seemed like you would really keep to yourself but, to my surprise, you have so much to say and they’re very…well, interesting. And I mean interesting in the best possible way! I love hearing your opinion on our topics!
Also, I totally agree that creative writing would be great to do and it’s definitely not hard to concentrate in that class!

  4. I love how we are given a moderate to long amount of time to complete our assignments, I think that's one of the best things about this class because it gives us more time to balance out other classes with this one. The essays are one of the most pleasant parts of Writing and Rhetoric (thus far) considering how much help is open to us from the peer editing that we do in class to the Learning Studio that we can schedule an appointment and go to assist us in our essays. Also, Liz is an awesome teacher, she definitely makes english more interesting than it is.
